Early 1960s, during Kennedy Administration. Lyndon Johnson was a supporter from his vice-president through his presidency. He was the only president to spend a day and a half in East LA. This was at DM's invitation. They spoke of conditions in East LA. It was a directive from Johnson to labor secretary that funded the first on-the-job training program for MAOF.
After the assassination of President Kennedy, Johnson named DM to a presidential commission.
When asked why he looked so serious, DM replied, "I was nervous!"
Later on, he came to East LA at the invitation at Northrop. Johnson let them know that DM would sit at the head table. "It was this friendship that had a great deal to do with what MAOF is today."
At the meeting with Mexico/US, about El Chanizal, DM was his key representative.
MAOF wouldn't be here if it weren't for Lyndon Johnson.
